Week 9, Continuing to get the base work done

Bit of an interesting week. Training carried on well and pretty much to plan only a couple of changes which I will cover in a moment.

But I have had a little bit of competition arrive on the scene so to speak, As most readers know I regularly race my Step Daughter in Laws little sister (Xana) in local running races,

But my wife Sue has decided to up the stakes ! We both decided that  we would do the Chester half marathon in May as it fits well with my schedule and Sue cos it’s the furthest  she enjoys running. But this time she wants to go quicker, She failed to break 2hrs by just over a minute a couple of years back at Wrexham when she was training for the London Marathon, and her stated aim is to go sub 2hrs for this year’s Chester Half.

I generally bimble round a half in 2 hrs plus or minus a couple of minutes, This time tho the added pressure of up holding the family honour has called for new tactics. Sue has started running with our clubs Tuesday night training session, So my only option to get some speed in my legs is to submit to the ministrations of Coach Morgan’s track sessions on a Wednesday evening. Friendly rivalry my a$$ !!!!!

I used to partake in half hearted (well by me) track session way back in my Coventry days with the Spartans, But as I left Coventry 9 years ago, I have a feeling Wednesday night isn’t going to be pleasant !

As I mentioned skipped one planned cycling session, as it was really icy on Saturday (we didn’t get and snow)  I set the cross trainer up in front  of the TV and watched France v Italy start off the 6 nations. Managed a whole 90 minutes on the damn thing, Nearly killed me.

So week 10 of the training prog starts with a rest tonight, Been a heavy weekend and as Sue is now late going running with the club Tuesday I will get out then.

The weekend is full of celebrations, Our 6th wedding anniversary and my Mum’s 80th birthday on Saturday and my debut at Mountain Bike duathlon on Sunday 6km run, 18km bike 4km run, It won’t be pretty, but it should be fun.
